Main research directions:

  • Seismic regime study of the Carpathian-Balkan region, seismic macrozoning of the territory of the Republic of Moldova, seismic microzoning of urban areas, seismotectonics and geodynamics.
  • Study of regional geology, lithology and stratigraphy of geological formations and minerals deposits tectonics and neotectonics;
  • Hydrodynamics and regime investigations of ground water in the Republic of Moldova, the ground water reserves and quality, hydrologic prognosis and riverbed processes of small rivers;
  • Study of the geochemical anthropogenic processes on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, improvement of geochemical monitoring, quantitative prognosis of environmental pollution, elaboration of methods for pollution localization and reduction.

Main scientific achievements:

  • Soil-structure interaction efects were studied for the purpose of providing seismic security;
  • Methodology of interpretation for seismic waves ields on the basis of seismic waves polarization properties was created;
  • Methodology of quantitative interpretation of macroseismic ields was elaborated;
  • Seismic intensity as function of elastic soil parameters was studied;
  • Peculiarities of spectral content for the Carpathian earthquakes were studied;
  • Methodology of seismic microzonation under specific regional conditions was created;
  • Upgrade of the Building Code MD SNIP 2-7-82 for aseismic design of buildings on the territory of the Republic of Moldova;
  • The consolidation age of the crystaline basement of Predobrodian depression was set up;
  • The mapping of Paleozoic stratum and structural elements of the Aluat graben was done;
  • Ground water quality study of the Republic of Moldova and Memphis, USA;
  • A new methodology of pollutants migration in unsaturated zone (case study in the Republic of Moldova and the Karlsruhe region, Germany) was proposed;
  • Groundwater low modeling of Moldova and Chisinau City was done.
